So for any of you that have read my feature on 'pet loss' you will know how much Tom was struggling to cope witht the loss of his golden retriever, Russell.

Well I have an update which turns this very sad story into something much more light hearted!

A few months ago, Tom and his mum made the decision to go and look at a group of retriever puppies. Tom instantly fell in love with them and begged his mum to reconsider going back for a second time.

After some persuasion, Toms mum agreed to go back but this time to actually pick a new puppy! Tom noticed one puppy stand out from all the others and they now own him and have called him Ralphy!

Although Tom said no other dog could ever replace Russell, he has found another best friend in Ralphy. Tom also beleives getting Ralphy was the best thing his family could have done.

Getting a new pet for a lot of people gives them a sense of comfort after going through the sad times of losing a previous pet.

Don't forget if you are struggling to cope with the loss of your pet, then Dr Wallace Sife's book 'The Loss of a Pet' may be of some use to you.
