Raising Money for Cats Protection: The Fun Way
By Kenna Zarebski
Animal Behaviour and Welfare student, Emma Riley, will be participating in the first ever Lincoln Student Colour Run, whilst raising money for the Cats Protection charity.
The Student Colour Run is bringing a whole lot of coloured powder to Lincoln for the first time ever on Sunday 24 April. The unique 5k route around the University of Lincoln campus consists of students being showered in multitudes of colour whilst either running, walking, skipping or even hopping.
Emma is excited to take part and is thrilled to be raising money on behalf of Cats Protection. She said: “I did some work experience with Cats Protection a few years ago and seeing just how much effort and work they put into rehoming cats really inspired me. Charity’s like this I think should be noticed more, as the work that goes into protecting cats is such an achievement.”
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, and their vision is for every cat to be treated with kindness and for their needs to be understood. Whilst Cats Protection aims for this to be fulfilled due to their passion in their profession, they recognise that this is an ambitious vision.
A spokesperson from Cats Protection said: “We work hard to ensure that every cats needs are acquired for and that cats are treated in the best way possible. One of the vital things we do includes rehoming cats and finding them the perfect home. We believe every cat deserves a fun, friendly home environment to live in so we therefore make sure the cats best interests are taken into consideration when rehoming them.” Cats Protection’s work also includes neutering. They see this as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the UK.
The colour run aims to bring the most colour filled day to Lincoln, celebrating life, friendships, fitness and fun. With less than a week to go, Emma can’t wait for the day’s events and to be covered head to toe in colour: “I am so excited for the colour run and to cross the finish line. This will be a massive achievement for me, and knowing I’m doing it whilst raising money for Cats Protection makes it even better.”
Emma has so far raised £80 on her just giving donation page, making her just £10 away from her target. A post-5k festival of colour will be held in the Engine Shed after the run where colour canons will be blasted on and off stage.
Tickets for the Student Colour Run can be purchased on the Student Colour website here. Each ticket will also get you an exclusive t-shirt to run in and keep, a race number and wristband, a bag of your own colour to use at the start/finish line and finally, entry to the after party.
For more information on the event, head over to the student colour Facebook page or website.
The student colour run comes to Lincoln for the first time ever on the 24th April 2016.
Cats Protection focus on the wellbing of cats and hope for every cat to be treated with kindness.
