I am a meerkat from the African planes and I belong to the mongoose family. I am small in size and I live with lots of other meerkats which is called a mob, gang or clan. Sometimes our family can have 50 or more members. We like to eat lizards, snakes, scorpions, spiders and other insects, however we also enjoy eating plants and fungi. Our babies are called pups and they are allowed to leave our burrow when they are 2 to 3 weeks old. We meerkats are very stern creatures and are always on the lookout for prey and we warn each other of any dangers. Typically we can live for around 12-14 years.
