Dingo

We are free ranging dogs mainly found in Australia. We were first brought to Australian shores 5000 years ago by Indonesian Seafarers and now reside throughout mainland Australia in all types of habitats such as grassland, desert and tropical regions. There are lots of different cross breeds of Dingo/Dog so it’s extremely common to see us in suburbia however truly pure Dingoes are actually quite rare. Unlike dogs, we actually howl rather than bark making our behaviour seem more wolf like. Our appearance is also rather similar to wolves in that we’re lean with pricked ears and a bushy tail but rather than grey we are sandy brown/ginger in colour and often have a variety of white markings around our feet and chest. We’re not usually aggressive towards humans are rare but we our diet consists entirely of meat and we often feed on kangaroos and wallabys. Due to this we often get the blame when livestock is attacked but usually this is down to feral dogs and Dingo/Dog hybrids rather than us Dingoes.
