Cats and Cucumbers: What is the Deal?

I can totally understand if the sole reason you have for clicking on this video is because you are completely confused as to what cats and cucumber is. Then again, you may be completely in the know and have seen the internet craze that has been circulating.

Cats in households all over the country have become an internet sensation over the last few weeks. Owners have been uploading videos of their funny pets jumping almost 3ft in the air at the site of a cucumber. There have been many theories flowing around the internet, including the idea that cats apparently think their tails have suddenly fell of, or it is even down to their deadly fear of snakes. Though I am not sure when my cat has ever encountered a snake to know what they are, let alone have a fear of them.

How could an opportunity like this not be explored? Therefore on my last visit home I thought I would test the theory. Check out the video below to see what happened my cat Tilly faced a cucumber.

As you can see it did not work the way we had hoped. I am pretty sure all this achieved was my cat looking at me as though as I have lost my mind.

So what is the real reason for so many cats across the internet jumping out of their skin at the sight of a vegetable? Well apparently it is not as shocking or interesting as we all were expecting. In most of the clips the cat is turned away and the reason for their terrified reaction is turning around and seeing something that was not there before. To be honest it completely makes sense, in fact I would react exactly the same if something strange suddenly popped up behind me, whilst I was minding my own business.

So that is it, that is the big cats and cucumber secret, owners scaring the living day out of their unsuspecting furry friends. I would like to apologise to my cat Tilly for even trying, I should have known you were to clever and sassy to even be interested.
