Armadillo!
I’m a land mammal and reside in Central America. Similar to Woodlice, I am most recognisable by my hard outer shell around my body to protect me from predators so that if I feel threatened or in danger, I can curl up into a ball leaving no soft body parts exposed. I also have long claws which come in handy for digging burrows and hunting insects to eat. Usually I grow to become 75cm in length but the Giant Armadillo (the largest species of armadillo) can actually grow to be 1.5 metres! Despite my odd body shape I am quite fast when I want to be and can reach a top speed of 30mph so I can easily outrun my predators which are mainly bears, wildcats and wolves. Unfortunately however, I don’t have the best vision making me vulnerable particularly to cars. In fact the Nine Branded Armadillo has gained such a reputation for being run over that it’s been nicknamed “The Hillbillys Speedbump!” I’m also critically endangered due to over hunting (apparently I’m tasty for humans to eat) and deforestation.
